Welcome to Vanasuma Studio
Hello and welcome!
I’m so happy you’re here. This blog is a quiet space where I’ll share glimpses from my life as a surface pattern designer, illustrator, and farmer — all deeply rooted in the forests and rhythms of the Western Ghats in India.
What is Vanasuma?
“Vanasuma” means wildflower — and it reflects everything I hold dear: beauty that grows quietly, stories that take root slowly, and the deep joy of being connected to the land. I grew up on a forest farm in Malenadu, homeschooled and surrounded by trees, birdsong, and traditional knowledge. That upbringing continues to inspire my creative process every day.
From Soil to Sketchbook
My designs are born from what I see and live:
The ferns by the stream
The grains we harvest
The handmade brooms or wild bees
The Kannada names my grandmother taught me for each herb
These elements find their way into my patterns, whether I’m drawing by hand or working digitally.
You’ll find both surface pattern designs and illustration work here — some made for fabric and home decor, others just for the joy of storytelling.
